Women's Health Workshop
Women’s health can be a taboo topic to discuss in many communities, and as a result many of us are not well informed about sexually transmitted diseases, contraception, family planning, female anatomy, and much more.
These topics have a massive impact in our lives as women, so it is imperative we are educated on this. At our workshop we will be discussing these topics in depth with religious and cultural sensitivities to accommodate our audience. Our event is a specially tailored safe space to ensure attendees can ask questions and participate freely.
This workshop is particularly important for anyone looking to get married or who just want to be more educated about their own health - you will also have the opportunity to ask doctors any related health issues.

Perinatal Mental Health Workshop
Join us at our expert led workshop where we will discuss what is postpartum, what is perinatal mental health and how to seek help.
Workshop is open to all including expecting mothers, fathers and any professionals who work with pregnant women.
About 30% of mothers experience some issues with their mental health either during or after pregnancy. The most common perinatal mental health problems are:
Perinatal depression
Perinatal anxiety
Perinatal OCD
Postpartum psychosis
Postpartum PTSD.
At our expert led workshop we aim to educate about these mental health conditions as well as provide support and signpost for help. We are joined by the amazing doula Abla from @theshemsdoula, alongside mental health professionals who will discuss this topic in depth.
Children and babies are welcome however we are unfortunately unable to provide childcare so we ask that parents bare this in mind.
Breast Cancer Workshop
Breast cancer is one of the most common types of cancers diagnosed in females annually. Identifying signs and symptoms at an earlier stage will help successful treatment and save lives. Breast related topics for discussion in general are seen as a taboo in some communities.
Our aim is to raise awareness of breast cancer and teach women how to examine themselves to identify abnormalities. This will empower women to know when to seek help from a healthcare professional.
This is an important skill to have so please share with family and friends.

Holding onto religion as a Muslim woman when it's weaponised against you
One would wonder how do Muslim woman hold onto their faith despite having religious texts and opinions used against them consistently?
Join us at our "Let's Talk" session where we will be discussing this detrimental issue that has been circling around for some time now. When you think about how men use religious texts to subjugate and oppress women, it seems like a miracle that any of us are still Muslim! We've all heard the hadith about angels cursing women, or that the majority of hell inhabitants will be women. But is there any truth to this and does it contradict the Quran in any way?
We hope to discuss this topic in depth, clear up any misconceptions and provide a safe space to vent frustrations and come up with solutions. As always this is a women's only safe space where recordings will not be permitted.
Let’s Talk sessions are safe spaces created to allow the discussion and debate of taboo issues in the Muslim community. These sessions have 3 parts to them - first is where we discuss and debate the chosen topic. The second part is where we look at what Islam specifically says about the issue - this is important to clear up any misconceptions or ideas that are often imposed by culture and not religion. The third and final part is where we discuss individual and communal solutions to issues brought up. This helps us have an objective approach to the problem and gives a sense of hope and change.

“Spiritual Abuse” Rise of abusive religious figures and what we can do about it.
We are delighted to announce the start of our "Let's talk" discussion series! To kick off our series we will be talking about the rise of abusive religious figures in the Muslim community. Unfortunately, this seems to be a recurrent and systemic problem, however, tolerance for this behaviour seems to be changing. During this session we will talk about what spiritual abuse looks like, how the lines of professionalism can be blurred, what to do if it occurs, and where we can get help and support. We will be emphasising on what boundaries with religious authority looks like, and how we can enforce them if they are being violated. The Zoom details will be included below and we stress that this is a female only safe space.

Sexual Abuse: How Can The Civil Law Support Survivors?
Sexual abuse is widespread issue often shunned in our communities, with very little action taken on the perpetrators. This is often due to lack of information regarding the legal means of accessing compensation. Hawaa Empowerment aims to change this by providing a free educational workshop delivered by Zahra Awaiz-Bilal of Bolt Burdon Kemp Law Firm. Zahra is accredited by the Association of Personal Injury Lawyers as a Senior Litigator and she is also a member of the Association of Child Abuse Lawyers. Sign up to ensure a spot at our workshop.

"Let's Talk" Red flags in relationships and why we consistently ignore them.
Join us this Wednesday at our monthly "Let's talk" session where the topic is "Red flags in relationships and why we consistently ignore them.
With Muslim women becoming more independent, educated and self sufficient, the dynamics of relationships have been changing. This has lead to different standards and expectations of what is and is not accepted in a union. Today we wanted to discuss What are the red flags pertaining specifically to Muslim relationships? Why do we consistently ignore them? How can we be more aware of the pitfalls and avoid settling for less due to social pressures.

"Let's Talk" We know Islam is not racist, you are! Racism through the lens of Islamic justice.
Join us at our Let’s Talk session this week where we will be discussing Racism through the lens of Islamic justice. The BLM movement has taken the world by a storm and has forced many of us to examine our own prejudices. Racism is found in all communities even Muslim ones - so instead of being ignorant we need to confront this problem and commit to changing not only ourselves but our communities too. At this session we aim to centre Black Muslim voices as well as examine racism from an Islamic perspective.

"Let's Talk" Infallible Shaykhs - The disease of celebrity Shaykh culture.
We are delighted to announce the start of our "Let's talk" discussion series! To kick off our series we will be talking about the idolising of Shaykhs/Islamic speakers in the Muslim community which can be incredibly problematic for a range of reasons. Over the last couple of years we've noticed the rise of "Celebrity Shaykhs", how they've been put on pedestals, and what happens when they fall from these "lofty" places.
We hope to discuss why this is the case, and how can we avoid falling into the trap of turning living people into idols based on how eloquently they preach God's word or how well they recite the Qur'an. We will also be talking about the necessary boundaries needed when dealing with Islamic figures and personalities.

Sexual Abuse In The Muslim Community - Panel
Sexual Abuse is prevalent in many communities and unfortunately the Muslim community is not excluded from this. Victims are overwhelming women however we would like to highlight that men are also victims. We want to open up the taboo conversation about sexual abuse and provide proactive support for those who have been affected or know someone who has been affected. Make sure to join us to be part of the conversation.
Muslim Mental Health Struggles
Join us at our interactive Mental Health workshop aimed at the Muslim youth! Our workshop aims to discuss common mental health issues affecting young Muslims and talk about the solutions to them. We hope to discuss how you can best support yourself and others too. Mental Health can be quite a taboo within Muslim communities so with this workshop we aim to create a relaxed, honest and interactive environment where individuals feel comfortable expressing their views without fear of reproach.
